Experiences with MounaMay Bellydance School The Hague
I took bellydance classes at MounaMay Bellydance school a few years ago. I started with regular classes, then moved on to the performance group. The lessons were taught with a lot of care, enthusiasm and joy. Mouna is dedicated to her pupils, knows how to get the best out of them and how to create a beautiful whole out of their collective performances. Whether you just want to bellydance for fun or take it a step further, you’re at the right place with Mouna!

I’ve been dancing with joy at MounaMay Bellydance School since September 2015. The classes always start with a great warming-up, a yoga-like mix of stretching and balance. Wonderful! I really like how several classes are dedicated to one subject, like the use of your arms or working on the posture and movements of classical Egyptian dancing. This gives you time to really master the techniques. Later classes build on what you’ve already learned. The group is very friendly as well. Classes always feature dancing together in a circle, which is a lot of fun. I’m really looking forward to the next four months.

I’m taking the introduction class of MounaMay Bellydance School. The course is set in such a way that you take the introduction course twice or three times. For me, this deepened my trust in performing the many moves that the course introduces. The first time round, I got a basic grip on them. On the second time round, it feels comfortable to know the moves and work on perfecting them. Mouna is a friendly and challenging teacher who adapts the class well to the level of her students. Mouna likes to get to know her students.

I recently started at MounaMay Bellydance School, and I’m enjoying it a lot! The classes are structured nicely, and we always start with an extensive warming-up. The teacher knows a lot about the human body, and about different styles of dance. The classes offer a nice mix of improvisation and choreography, and there’s a good balance between dancing individually and copying the teacher. The teacher is fully committed to the school, and she’s focused on getting the best out of her pupils. This makes the classes both relaxing and challenging! I hope I’ll be able to keep dancing here for a long time!

With Mouna it is a great way to experience the art of Bellydance. She has a natural grace and beauty. Mouna promotes many ways to improve your posture with femininity and self-confidence. At MounaMay Bellydance School it is more than a dance class, it is a fabulous trip to the oriental spirit.

I have been attending to MounaMay’s performance group lessons for almost 3 years. I have learnt plenty of new things about technique, but I have also improved how to communicate with the public and how to express feelings and emotions when dancing. The atmosphere in the lessons was great! I felt welcome since the very beginning. Every new performance was a challenge and really hard work, but this is the only way to success. Thank you Mouna and my nice friends from the performance group!

When rewatching Sunny Bergman’s documentary “Beperkt houdbaar”, I came across a clip of a slightly older woman who really enjoyed bellydancing. Because I’m a little older myself, this made me curious. Google led me to “MounaMay Bellydance School”. A great choice. The name oriental dance, Egyptian style, suits my current experience better than bellydancing, because it’s so much more than just dancing with your belly. Mouna has a great way of teaching you how to use all the different parts of your body independently while dancing. We’re currently focussing on how to move your arms and hands graciously and forcefully. Learning to dance in this way doesn’t just make me aware of my body, but also of all its independent parts. It’s both energizing and relaxing. Mouna also stimulates me to let go of my mild feelings of shame through the different dancing exercizes, like moving freely, dancing together, and mirroring. This oriental dancing is not easy, but I get a lot of joy out of the music and dancing together.

When I joined a friend, who invited me along, to try a class at MounaMay Bellydance school, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I just knew I liked to dance and figured this was worth a try. Five years later I’ve gained many great experiences there: great classes, friendships, funny and beautiful moments, cool performances, I conquered my stage fright, and of course learned a beautiful, unique form of dance. This is definitely one of the most fun things I’ve done in my life so far.
The lessons are very professional, enjoyable, educational, and well-paced for both beginners and advanced dancers. Every class starts with stretching and a slow build-up. After that, every class is different, and there’s so much to learn that it’s still fun and new after five years. During this time I’ve met a lot of other pupils. For more experienced dancers, the intermediate level or performance group classes meet the expectations as well.
I definitely recommend it! If nothing else, it’s worthwhile to have a first go at bellydancing. If you’re more experienced, there’s plenty of room to develop yourself further.

When I moved to the Hague three or four years ago, I was looking for a performance group so I could continue to channel my love of bellydance, perform, and learn new things in this form of dance. Through google I found MounaMay Bellydance School. After applying, I took a trial class where I received a warm welcome, and which went very smoothly. There my dancing adventures started, which brought me everything I was looking for in a bellydance school and performance group. I still greatly enjoy dancing with the ever-growing performance group.
I like the amount of performances we do, the level we dance at, and the continuously changing composition of the group. It stays challenging and fresh! Classes start with stretches, then we work on our technique and the choreography for performances. The structure of the classes is a little different from those on beginner or advanced level, since they’re geared towards performing together. Mouna always managed to impress us with surprising, creative, varied and spectacular dance. There are a few regular performances every year. Aside from those, we decide together where and when to perform. Mouna respects the wishes of the dancers, and puts in a lot of time to promote our group at new and challenging venues. We also use new costumes and a new prop (veil, fan, stick, etc.) every year, which makes it exciting to start with a new choreography.
Mouna is very clear in her explanations, has an eye for detail and always works to get the best out of the group, which leads to gorgeous results. We get back into it very enthusiastically every new season. I highly recommend MounaMay Bellydance School, both for those wanting to explore bellydance for the first time and those wanting to expand on their talents with classes or performances.
